The Best City Break Ideas In Europe For Valentine’s Day 2023.
However you decide to celebrate Valentine’s Day, let’s make it a memorable one. Here, you’ll find a collection of the best city breaks in Europe to plan out next month. Loved-up? Best friends take on the globe? Solo trip? A quiet one with someone special? I’ve searched the web for tempting flights, sweet locations, and fun UK experiences to get you excited. Rest assured, you won’t hear about any of the typical locations associated with romance, like Paris, Rome or Venice.
Oh, and all of the suggestions are less than £65. To say I’m impressed with my findings is an understatement. Although, if you’ve missed out on the below fares I’d suggest jumping onto my post for travel inspo in Lanzarote.

6 Affordable Holiday Destinations For Valentine’s.
Funchal.
Madeira is always a shout, Funchal specifically, for nature, wine cellars and botanical gardens. Not to mention the warm climate. How’s that for some winter sun? I’d suggest 3 days in Funchal, to soak up the scenes at ‘Monte Palace Madeira’, picnic at ‘Santa Catarina Park’, and ride up cable cars.
Example date: 7th of Feb -10th of Feb from London to Funchal for £41, at time of publishing post.
Prague.
More into history? Prague will be a worthy one for you. Be sure to stop by ‘Prague Castle’, admire ‘Old Town Square’, and wander across ‘Charles Bridge’. Two days will give you a taste of the city without getting frostbite.
Example date: 20th of Feb -22nd of Feb from London to Prague for £47, at time of publishing post.
Galway.
To satisfy all your live music desires, you need to make your way to Galway. Take a few days to stroll ‘The Latin Quarter’ and get cosy in a pub near ‘Quay Street’ with a local band.
Example date: 10th of Feb -13th of Feb from Birmingham to Galway for £35, at time of publishing post.
Kraków.
There’s no doubt about it, Kraków is impressive. You’ll get a glimpse of medieval gems the moment you step foot into the city. Update your social media feed in ‘Rynek Główny’ and eat your way through pierogi at ‘Pierogarnia Krakowiacy’.
Example date: 20th of Feb -23rd of Feb from London to Krakow for £44, at time of publishing post.
Palma.
You couldn’t get any closer to Valentine’s day if you tried. What an absolute steal, and it’s a weekend trip? The way you’ll drool over the crystal clear waters should be enough of a selling point.

Budapest.
Budapest is a city which has everyone excited right now, and rightly so. ‘Fisherman’s Bastion’ will leave you speechless, while a dip in ‘Széchenyi Thermal Baths’ makes you forget what the word ‘stress’ even means.

UK Staycation Ideas For Valentine’s Day.
If you’re based in the UK, and prefer a shorter trip, I’ve got you covered. Below are a handful of places to deliver an epic 24 hours.
The UK’s Version Of Italy, Portmeirion.
The Welsh village had a taste of stardom after being compared to ‘Portofino’, given the playful streets, pastel buildings and coastal atmosphere. Whilst there isn’t permanent residence in Portmeirion, as the area has been carefully constructed for tourism purposes, don’t let this put you off. Dinner with a view is guaranteed here.
Day Trip To Cambridge.
Ok, this is my hometown, but hear me out. A morning punting session down the Cam, a Chelsea bun run at ‘Fitzbillies’, a street-food crawl in ‘Market Square’, and an afternoon exploring ‘King’s College’ will fill your head with chilled vibes to survive Valentine’s month. Visiting Cambridge soon? Please let me know via social media or in the comments, as I can give you a whole list of things to do based on your preferences.
Afternoon Tea On A Canal Boat.
Located in Stafford, ‘Georgie’s Canal Cruises’ dishes out afternoon tea by the riverside. Book in advance, highlight any dietary requirements, and you’ll be good to go. Prices start from a mere 29.50 pp, including a 2-hour cruise experience.
This is a fun post! I won’t be heading anywhere during Valentine’s Day, but the tickets for Prague, Krakow, and Budapest are very tempting! I have a soft spot for the Central European countries, and perhaps one of these days I’ll return! Until then, I plan to have a nice dinner out in LA with my partner on the day of love! <3
