Get To Know Me: Travel + Lifestyle Blogger Edition

With my travel blog approaching 5 years of content, I thought I’d do a little question-and-answer session so you can all get to know more about the face behind the page. I felt it would be the best way to form connections with my new subscribers whilst maintaining connections with readers who started this blogging journey with me. I’m going to answer the questions I feel people are most intrigued about but if you have anything specifically that you want to ask, let me know in the comments or on Instagram. Let’s get started!

Where do you live?

I am currently based in the United Kingdom, having just come back from working in Spain for a few years. I moved to Spain a few months after I graduated from university. However, you may have seen in previous posts I’ve mentioned living in the US. The reason for that was attending university in Massachusetts.

Are you a full-time travel blogger?

No. I have always incorporated my blog into my lifestyle, whether that be studying, working or travelling. I actually used to have a nomadic lifestyle but recently decided to go into full-time employment in my field, which is law. I usually blog after work, on weekends or randomly at night when an idea comes into my mind!

For now, I’m keen to keep blogging a hobby, rather than quitting my job to blog full-time, as I enjoy gaining experience in the legal field. This is not to suggest I won’t become a full-time travel blogger in the future though, as blogging has well and truly become part of my lifestyle. As mentioned above, I did have insight with being a nomad but found that a sense of structure was something I needed until I have my life plans figured out for certain. I am a big advocate of travelling part-time whilst working full-time, so have no issue with having a set allowance of annual leave just yet. I mean I’ve been doing part-time travel for years! I’ve got a post coming out about it soon so keep your eyes peeled…

Best tip for someone starting out with blogging?

After 5 years of blogging, I would say adding your own spin to content is more important than people think. It just makes for more authentic content and ensures your posts stand out. There are plenty of posts out there on top things to do in X or 5 best spots in Y, so adding your own personality makes your post more memorable. If you are doing something which has been done before, add a different spin on it to let your personality become visible through the screen.

What do you do when you aren’t blogging or working?

I am definitely the type of person who likes to keep busy and productive. I’ve always been that way. Little fun fact but this is part of the reason I don’t have a tv in my home (if I want to watch something, I’ll use my laptop to go on Netflix and watch a documentary). When I am not at work or working on my blog, you’ll find me in the dance studio or playing the piano (I’m getting there!). I also love to bake, which is why my blog features a slight food element to it. After being told I have food intolerances, I had to find alternatives to some of my old favourites.

Favourite holiday destination?

Italy will always be a special destination for me as I took my first solo trip there, however I also fell in love with the fashion-obsessed atmosphere. It remains one place where I always look underdressed, which makes a change from looking overdressed in the UK! I know that Milan sometimes gets a bit of a rep for being more ‘boring’ than other Italian cities but personally, I always have an incredible time there.

Must-have travel item?

I used to think I needed plenty of those fancy travel accessories like passport covers or luggage tags, but not anymore! My must-have travel item is probably something you have at home – small zip lock bags. Yup, perhaps not the item you were all expecting me to say! When I am on travels, I always find use for them. For example, putting around my luggage to make it noticeable, storing my cosmetics, keeping jewellery organised or using as a wallet to save tickets. If you want to read about some other must-haves found in hotel rooms then check out this post Room Hacks Every Backpacker, Nomad & Solo-Traveller Needs To Know. Now.

What destinations are on your bucket list?

I have nothing planned for the year yet but top of my bucket list is Japan for the fashion and food. I would also love to see Iceland. If I am able to travel somewhere closer to home this year, I would fly to Portugal. I went to the Algarve a few years back but am keen to see Lisbon. If you have been to any of these places, please let me know!

What’s next for you?

I’m going to be placing more emphasis on weekend trips, so saving coins for those spontaneous trips will be one of my priorities. The first, however, will be continuing to produce travel content for everyone on here and on my travel Instagram page, which you should check out if you haven’t already! Essentially, the account focuses on insightful travel guides which can be saved or read in seconds. I’ll link it here: Finally, I would love to meet a few of my online friends who I got to know through blogging, so that is also something to add to my goals for the year.

If you have any questions, drop them in the comments below and I’d be happy to answer. Until then, see you in the next post!

My five-year blogiversary is coming up this July, so congrats on your milestone! Lovely getting to know you more: I’ve been to Japan, Iceland, and Portugal, and I can vouch that they are all beautiful and worth the trip. If I had to give you one thing to do in each location, I’d say definitely get the matcha ice cream near the Asakusa Temple in Tokyo, visiting the black sand beaches in Vik, and check out Sintra in Portugal! Can’t wait to see where these next few months take you. 🙂

    1. The thing that inspired me to blog was my desire to have a space where I can share my thoughts and trips! My blog first started off like a diary to document each trip and since then it’s grown into informative or entertaining content, thank you for your question 😊
