My Story: How, When + Why I Got Into Blogging.

It’s been nearly 5 years of blogging? Is it cringe to say I got a little emotional during reflection of my blogging journey? You see, on paper, my blog wouldn’t be where it is now. Back in 2016-2018, I wasn’t consistent at all with posting and branding. I was still on my blog, but rarely writing. However, I got back on track and it paid off. That’s why I was keen to make this post, encouraging you to keep going. Welcome to my story.

Before we start though, let’s get into the basics. My name’s Yaz, but I am best known as the face behind ‘Thestrawberrysnaps’. I was born in the UK, but have since lived in the US and Spain. I started my blog in 2016 as a hobby to document trips, inspired by solo travels. Over the years, I’ve expanded to discuss travel more widely and built a community of readers. I’m here to offer you informative travel and lifestyle content which gets straight to the point. Who has time to read pages of information? Not me! My blog keeps things short, sweet and entertaining. That’s why I’ve recently made an Instagram page dedicated to snippets of info at @travelbystrawberrysnaps. You’ll also find my personal profile there.

Now that some background information has been given, I can get into the juicy stuff….

I fell into blogging by coincidence. Back in 2014, I was a first-year college student exploring ways to spend my student loan. At the last minute, I decided to take a solo-trip to Italy. I literally remember going to class with my cabin-bag, so I could head to the airport directly after my lecture haha. Whilst my trip was only a few days, it was enough to get me hooked on travel. Specifically, solo-travel. Not long after, I created a blog to record my trips.

After a while, I hit a point where I wasn’t too frequent on my blog. As I was only writing for myself, I didn’t feel any need to post regularly. Days went by, then months, then years. I still posted a few pieces whenever I was on holiday, but it was minimal. It wasn’t until a reader randomly replied to an older post that I fully realised why I started blogging in the first place. I mean, anything mixing communication and travel is me in a nutshell. That realization was enough for me to get back into things. I spent a day re-branding my blog, purchasing a domain and scheduling future content. With new-found consistency, I experienced steady growth, started to get collaborations/recognition and formulated a schedule which worked for myself. I also placed emphasis on insightful posts which could be read within minutes. My selling point, I guess you could say.

This is why I am adamant that taking a break is not always a bad thing. Sure, maybe your stats will mess up or you might lose motivation but hear me out. Coming back to something with fresh eyes, regardless of what it is, can lead to more purpose because you’ve had time to think things through. It’s completely possible to get back into blogging, regardless of what your timeline looks like. I actually wrote a post on tips I have for blogging in 2021. You might find it useful if, so I’ll link it here: How I Elevated My Blog In 2021. What Travel + Lifestyle Bloggers Should Know

Am I a full-time travel blogger now? No. I am actually part of a completely different industry, the legal industry. That was by choice. Although, I blog every second I have away from work. If I am being honest, I even blog WHILST at work sometimes haha. The joys of temporarily working from home, eh? Whilst my locations have changed more times than I can count, my interest to interact with other bloggers remains the same. That might sound wet, but it’s true. I’ve made such great friendships from blogging, which have turned into connections on other forms of social media. So, where do I see myself going from here? Well, I see myself continuing with travel writing whilst working in the legal field to provide you with fresh, funny and frequent posts on WordPress/Instagram. Oh and, hopefully I’ll pencil in a few holidays here and there once travel resumes. Iceland is high on my bucket list!

If you read my blog or stumbled across this page, I just wanted to say thanks. Your support and communication is one of the reasons why I am able to consistently produce content. The best part of blogging, for me, has been connecting with so many like-minded individuals so if you have any other social media platforms then please let me know as I’d love to follow you there too.

Until then, see you in the next post!

I’ve met so many wonderful people in the bloggosphere and I couldn’t be more thankful. I started my blog to warn others about bullies and to promote healing for myself and so far, it’s working! Keep up the great work because blogging is so cathartic! ❤
