Storytime: My Travel Disasters Part 2.

You might have seen my post about my horrific travel experiences so I thought I would continue the stories because I have plenty and need a good laugh.Β  If you haven’t seen the first post about my travel disasters I will link it for you here :Storytime: My travel disasters.

When a weekend in New York turned into me trying to wrestle a snake…

You guys, I cannot even begin to tell you how much I have laughed over this story. As you know, I am British but studied in the US. One day, my best friend decided we do a weekend in New York which I obviously agreed with. Fast forward, and there we are in New York City at night trying to find the man who sold us fake tickets to a show. We weren’t thinking and decided to get some tickets from a street seller but as soon as we arrived to the location a family warned us not to go inside. We were very confused and annoyed so decided to head back to the streets to find the man who sold us the tickets. GUYS this is like looking for a needle in a haystack haha. We were persistent and not ready to give up.

That is when we bumped into a street performer who had a huge snake around his neck. He decided to help us find this ticket man and we went with it because we were lost in the middle of NYC. The whole time this guy was trying to put a huge snake over my shoulders when I was very clearly terrified. I mean, a massive snake over your shoulders from a stranger at 11pm at night? Not exactly what you need when you are tired and want to find your accommodation am I right? The more I would run away the more the snake would seem to be approaching. It was such a madness and is making me giggle just thinking about it now.

5 minutes to catch a connecting flight…

Goodness, that title alone is enough to get your heart racing I am sure. I was flying to Arkansas to meet my online best friend but there were no direct flights so I had to fly to Chicago then get a transfer to Arkansas. Well, I was so excited to be meeting my online best friend so I didn’t really read the flight times suggested . . . So you can imagine when I actually LOOK at the flight times a day before my flight I was absolutely shocked to see I only had 20 minutes to catch the next flight. The next day I was already shaking from panic but also partly amused by the situation I found myself in. We all know planes are unpredictable with times but I was pleasantly surprised that my flight to Chicago arrived on time. However, the problem arose when I had to wait for my travel bag to come out from the bottom of the plane. OF COURSE MINE WOULD BE THE LAST ONE. As soon as I got my bag I RAN. I didn’t even know where I was going, I just started running all across Chicago airport lol. I stopped a flight assistant basically in tears asking where I should go because my gate was not displayed and I only had 5 minutes until the flight would close gates. As soon as I finally arrive at the gate I felt like I was in the scene of Home Alone 2 where Kevin bumps into the flight attendants and drops all his belongings ( You are a real one if you know what I am talking about) The gate was literally closing but I had just scrapped through in time to be able to get on the plane. That plane ride felt too quick for me to fully recover from all that stress.

A 2 hour car drive taking 10 hours because we drove to the wrong state….

Why do I have so many crazy situations in the US ?! Hahaha. Basically my dad flew with me when I was going to the US for university to help me with my luggage and we rented a car so we could drive to Amherst from Boston. We knew driving regulations were not the same as the UK but what we didn’t know is that it is so easy to drive in and out of states. We got lost on the journey because we kept missing the exits for the highways and after the 6 hour mark we realized we were no longer in Boston, but in New Hampshire. Yup. The Sat Nav had taken us to a little garage in a completely different state. My dad and I were STRESSED. Eventually, we stopped at some service stations and asked for directions and one lady decided to show us half of the journey by driving in front of us. After 9 hours we were finally on track to where we needed to go and on the tenth hour we finally arrived at the location I needed to be. Imagine being asked how was the journey and having to reply “Oh you know, drove to the wrong state and took 8 hours longer than necessary but no big deal” LOL.Β

For me, the funniest thing is knowing I was so young when all of these things were happening. You know what they say though, the older you are the more wisdom you have.

Until next time, keep safe everyone!
