Storytime: My Travel Disasters.

(Come say hi on Instagram!)

Hey guys, hope you are all safe and well.

Seeing as most of us can’t leave our house right now I’ve had so much time to reminisce about my travels, or more so the disasters! I feel like I’ve either had amazing travels or the opposite with no middle ground so I thought I needed to share to add some giggles into our lives

Let’s get right in:

Going to Spain with 60 euros for a week.

I had forgotten to bring my wallet with me so only had 60 euros for transport, food, and living which BY LUCK I had stashed away in my backpack after deciding I should change currency so I could buy those hefty priced airport meal bags. Yup the ones where one sandwich will set you back the same as a full course meal in Spain. I was hungry okay πŸ˜‚ I really had to spend my entire week eating potato chips and walking everywhere but it was one of my most memorable trips for sure.

Not having access to Google Maps in Italy.

Picture this, it was my first solo travel wayyyyy back when I was 18 ( I’m 24 now) and for some reason my phone was just not connecting to Maps. I was alone at 11 pm at night outside the airport thinking where the hell do I go from here ?! It was one of the most panic moments I’ve had abroad because I had no alternative plan. I couldn’t even show any taxi driver the address I needed because it was only saved in Maps. I had to run inside the airport and try to find a member of staff who could help me out but I was so shy at this point ( hard to believe I know! ) so it was soooo awkward. I think they must have felt sorry for me because they kindly came out to the taxi rank to help explain to the taxi driver where I needed to go

Travel agent took my boarding pass then claimed I never gave it to her.

This one was crazy! A travel agent took my boarding pass to scan but then got distracted and put it down then told me I never gave it to her. My family insisted that she took it but she said I never handed it to her. This was way back before mobile boarding so I couldn’t show it on my phone. She told me I wouldn’t be able to board the plane. Guys I was shaking! This lady was trying to ruin my holiday I was convinced πŸ˜‚ I couldn’t believe this was happening. Luckily her co-worker said I could be escorted onto the plane with the manager as proof that I was a “valid” passenger. The 10 minutes of stress felt like an hour I promise you. A huge line of people were tutting behind me, my sister was crying and my mum was arguing with the travel agent. Pleasant? I don’t think so.

A random passenger in the boarding line was legit trying to jump onto my back.

This one is another from my first solo travel! A passenger in the line kept trying to jump on my back…He was following my every move and randomly decided to jump my back in the airport ? Long story short, him and some other passengers got into a fight, I had to give a statement to security about the creepy passenger and he wasn’t allowed on the plane. I had to board last as security wanted to know details and I was so scared the plane would go without me 😩 when I ran on the plane everyone started CLAPPING.

Not being able to open the door to my Airbnb…

The host left the key under a mat as they weren’t able to greet me personally but the door was kinda old and traditional and the key just didn’t seem to fit at all. I was huffing and puffing for what felt like 30 minutes trying to get the key to turn but I had no luck. I don’t know why but I was too scared to call my host ( I should have really done this) so I kept trying to get the key to turn. In the end I managed it but only as I had to knock on the neighbour’s door to help me open it. Safe to say he wasn’t pleased. I really questioned whether it was worth leaving the flat to explore the city as I knew I would struggle to open it again if I left during the day…

Potentially flooding an entire apartment

My host didn’t tell me about a dodgy tap that just wouldn’t turn off properly so you can imagine my shock when I was washing up and tried to turn the tap off but it just kept going and going and going and going. Within seconds the sink was filling up so I had to think fast and use a bucket to get rid of water. I felt like I was going at full speed trying to get the sink water out into the bucket as quick as possible. I was completely freaked out as I didn’t know what to do. I couldn’t leave the tap unattended but I needed to catch my flight ! I tried calling the host and he told me to just leave it but I couldn’t do that could I?! In the end I put a bunch of cloths into the sink to try soak up water and tied a bag over the tap. I decided to try yanking the tap a few times and BY LUCK the water started to reduce to hardly anything. IT WAS OFF! Guys I was scared that even looking at it would set it off again so I backed away slowly and took my stuff and ran out as fast as I could.

Travel isn’t always glamorous so if you guys have had disaster moments let me know! I’d love to hear them

Until next time!
